Why Younger Adults Do Not Communicate With The Older Ones
Nowadays, a great deal of people do not want to interact verbally with the older adults in the society the way they used to in the past. This is actually not a positive situation, therefore, the issue needs to be surmounted urgently.
In the ancient times, people _both little and young used to be enthusiastic to communicate with the elderly ones. Back in those days, , children would sit under the moonlight to listen to the elders while they spoke. Similarly, the younger adults were never tired of consulting them to seek advice on diverse issues. Taking cognizance of the importance of these generians and the need to communicate with them effectively had greatly led to comparatively great achievements in the past. Indisputable, the old are most experienced as regards the phenomenon of the universe that the young and are capable of handing situations meticulously and sagaciously. They deal with problems or challenges with prudence and wits.
By comparison, despite the significant roles played by them in the society, they are now being rejected in the present day. Having a conversation with them is often regarded as unimportant. Unlike decades ago, their advice are not being sought, and neither are their contributions and ideas deemed relevant or crucial.
One of the reasons for this could be due to the revolutionization of the world with the advent of technology. People nowadays have the idea that old people do not have the technical skills or experience regarding the new system that had transformed the universe. For example, in Nigeria some years back, the younger adults would interact with the aged in a view to seeking more knowledge about the primitive health care _what herbs to use for a particular illness, what diet a pregnant woman should have and the likes. But in this day and age, modern health care has taken over the situation. Most people, obviously, do not need their advice because they consider them as not safe enough for them. Another reason is modernization, which is partially equivalent to the aforementioned reason. An instance of this is the existence of modern facilities such as hospitals, religious institutions and so on. Then, people would communicate with the old on different issues regarding health, politics and even marital affairs for instance, a man would consult an elderly one, seeking his advice as regards his wife_to_be. He would ask for their opinion about his fiancée, if she would make his ideal wife. On the contrary people now visit marriage counsellors for such advice. Also, the old ones then were usually the arbitrators,_the ones to settle disputes and resolve issues amongst people, but now, people need less or no contributions from them with the presence of law enforcement agencies.
Despite the enlisted reasons, the need to communicate with these people is still as crucial as it was in the past. Thus, there's a need for actions to be taken in this regard. Firstly, I think people should always be willing to initiate conversations with the old ones at home rather than neglect them. Secondly, since some aged live far away from their family, some people may find it hard to communicate with them, especially when these old ones cannot operate phones. In this situation, families should always endeavour to visit them, maybe at the weekends, and stay with them for some time. They should have an extensive conversation with them to make up for the lost time. In addition, members of communities should not leave them out of issues ravaging the society. Community leaders should not neglect communicating with them to seek advice relevant to the development of the society.
In conclusion, if all these are put into consideration, people of today will have a broadened knowledge of the world as well as become wiser in making judgements and decisions. Moreover, the growth and development of societies will be enhanced, and peace and tranquil will thrive.
